Peter Kelly

Partner and Head of Employment Law and Civil Litigation

Background

Peter qualified as a solicitor in 1981. He joined Neves in 1984 and became a partner in 1986. He specialises in litigation with an emphasis on employment law. Peter has enjoyed litigation for 20 years because, he says, of his argumentative nature. However he regards himself primarily as a problem solver, with the ability to think laterally to get the right practical solution for the client. He says: "if we end up in Court somebody has failed. The loser failed to recognise that possibility but the winner failed to persuade the loser of that probability!" Peter is a member of the Employment Lawyers' Association.

Recent work includes

  • Opposing in the High Court an employer's application for an injunction to enforce an employee's restrictive covenant.
  • Acting for an employer against former employees to restrain use of wrongfully taken confidential material belonging to the employer.
  • Successfully defending an estate against a strong claim for relief by the partner of the deceased.

Outside interests

Peter’s most favourite times are holidays with his family. He enjoys cycling and occasionally goes on a long cycle ride for charity.
