Disney's High School Musical Comes to Town

Neves’ Stuart Farrar is Director of the Colin Smith Luton Youth Musical Theatre, which is shortly due to perform Disney’s smash hit film 'High School'. It is now a stage musical and the Colin Smith Theatre is one of the first to secure the performing rights in the UK. Stuart founded the group in 2000 when it became clear to him that there was nothing of this sort for 13 to 21 year olds to become involved in.

It will be performed at Stopsley High School from Monday 19th November to Saturday 24th November 2007 inclusive.  There will be an evening performance at 7.30 p.m. on every night and in addition, on the 24th November there will be matinee performances at 11 p.m. and 3 p.m.

'High School Musical' is an American made for television musical film, produced and distributed by the Disney Channel and was released in January 2006.  The television film was one of the most successful Disney Channel original movies produced with a sequel and a spin-off soundtrack that was the most commercially successful album of 2006.  The CD and DVD have featured constantly in their respective charts for nearly two years.  Several extra songs have been added to the stage show that were not in the film.

Director, Stuart Farrar said “We are thrilled to be one of the first groups in the country to perform 'High School Musical'. The show has an amazing following amongst youngsters throughout the country. It really does appear to be the 'Grease' of its day. As with 'Les Miserables' 18 months ago, we expect a huge turnout for the auditions but this always enables us to pick an excellent cast. Over the last six months we have had some wonderful news with regard to existing members. Three have won themselves places at the country’s top drama schools, two are now appearing in top television series and one of our members is even performing in the West End. We are obviously always sad to see people go but are so proud of their achievements. It is also very exciting to see a new set of youngsters coming along who I am sure will equal the success of their predecessors”.

'High School Musical' is a story of two high school students, Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in maths and science.  Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical.  Despite other student’s attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella persist and inspire others along the way.

'Disney’s High School Musical' promises to be the brightest and biggest theatrical event of the year.  The demand for tickets has already been huge.  Any production by this talented young group is not one to be missed but the chance of seeing what is easily the country’s top attraction at a local venue is very much an extra bonus.
