Simeon Clipstone Reflects on a Year with the Scout Association

Simeon Clipstone Head of Commercial Property at Neves has spent much of his spare time in the last year as an Assistant Leader with the local Scout Group.

Like many parents, I became involved in Scouting when my daughter joined Scouts and my son joined Cubs. This has allowed me not only to support my own children but also given me the pleasure of helping other young people enjoy themselves and grow and develop through the many challenges of scouting.

Scouting is an extremely active and energetic pastime and a great counter balance from time spent in the office based environment of a law firm.

Many of our Cubs have enjoyed their first adventure away at Cub Camp this year and experienced activities such as archery and “wide games”. Our summer Scout Camp saw our older children enjoying a huge variety of activities such as high wires, hiking, canoeing, raft building and climbing. A regional camp was held in which our older Scouts, the Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders joined with others from around the District to learn leadership skills and enjoy yet more fun and games such as abseiling and field shooting.

Plans are well advanced to take a party of Scouts to Adelboden in Switzerland for a summer camp in 2009. For more information on Scouting generally, follow the link to The Scout Association website, www.scouts.org.uk.
