The Government has published an eagerly awaited Green Paper on the future funding of elderly care.
A number of options are outlined in the paper but, whatever system is eventually adopted, the probability is that individuals looking for the state to provide their care will have to make a significant contribution towards the cost.
Any changes arising are not expected to begin to apply until 2014 at the earliest. The current much criticised rules are therefore likely to be in place for some time.
