Welcome to the November edition of our newsletter, keeping you up to date with all the latest legal news.
Lord Young Publishes Report Last month we brought you the news that Lord Young was investigating the health and safety culture that has sprung up in this country in recent years. The report has now been published and is entitled “Common Sense - Common Safety.” It includes key recommendations including an opinion that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) should introduce simple interactive risk assessment procedures for low-hazard workplaces, and make them readily available on its website. Contact us for a full run down of the report and what the recommendations could mean for you.
Qualifying Period for Unfair Dismissal to be Extended Lord Young has also confirmed that the Coalition Government is planning to increase the qualifying period for unfair dismissal to two years. Currently employees only need to have worked one year before they can claim unfair dismissal. If this proposal does become law it will do so very quickly, so speak to our experts if you require further in depth advice.
Neves News November once again saw the return of Will Aid to our Milton Keynes office. As Neves were the only firm in Milton Keynes participating in the Will Aid scheme, Gail Donaldson and her team quickly made over 100 appointments, with a waiting list operating for many more. Due to the demand, Paul Ashby, Atiyyah Younis and Kiera Brennan were all drafted in to assist in the massive task of meeting with each client for a personal review and assessment before drafting each bespoke will. Neves are very pleased to donate time and resources to this very worthwhile event, which at the middle of the month had already raised £4,500, already exceeding the amount raised last year. We will bring you news of the final figure in the New Year. If you would like to review your current will or make a will for the first time then contact one our team.
Congratulations to Jane and Jucy Joseph of the Harpenden Office, who both took part and completed the Mucky Race Guts and Glory! Read the full details and see the state Jane and Lucy were in when they crossed the finish line on our website. And finally, this month we said a sad farewell to Jill Norris, Accounts Manager, after 33 years of service. Jill was based at our Luton office and will be missed by all. All at Neves wish Jill a long and relaxing retirement.
